CODE NAME:
AMNON
The Life and Times of a Haganah
Fighter 1943-1949
At
the end of World War II, under the rule of the
British mandate, thousands of Holocaust survivors,
looking to Palestine for salvation, were met with
severe resistance from the British and denied
entry. The British defied their own Balfour declaration;
to encourage the creation of the State of Israel,
by allowing only a nominal amount of refugees
entry. Implausibly, Holocaust survivors were sent
to holding camps in Cyprus, and forced to endure
yet more hardship and uncertainty in their horribly
wrecked lives.
In
addition to their hard line against Jewish immigration,
the British openly disarmed Jews of all weapons
of defense, while at the same time covertly arming
the Arabs and inciting them to attack Jewish communities.

Left with no other alternative but to resist these
devious acts, the Jews organized secret armies
to protect themselves. These top- secret armies
were the basis of what would later become the
Israeli Defense Forces, one of the most formidable
armies in the world.
Haganah
victories were responsible for the smuggling of
thousands of Holocaust survivors into Palestine,
and giving them a chance to rebuild their broken
lives. Though severely outnumbered, the Haganah
defended Jewish communities against constant Arab
assault, all the while managing to make a life
and living bloom out of the desert sands.

Name: Amnon is the true-life story of a young
man born in Palestine, who at the age of 14 was
drafted into the underground resistance movement
called the Haganah. With this elite group of Jews,
willing to fight, and die for the dream of a people,
we get a glimpse into the secret operations that
toppled the mighty British and drove back countless
Arab attacks. Despite his youth, Amnon’s own talents
were responsible for numerous Israeli victories
and many embarrassing British failures. This story
takes you from the early struggle to establish
a Jewish homeland, to the jubilation of seeing
an age-old dream become a reality.
This
is a side of the Arab/Israeli conflict never told
before; And the truth about the scheming British
hand in a clash that threatens all of us, even
today.
Singing,
dancing, elated fortune
after 2000 years,
this great miracle is accomplished.
Palestine,
our dear and holy country, is ours.
His
children are free at last; free to live with their
heads high, and with human dignity.
Thank
with your whole being, sing and dance, fill the
air with happiness, for today is the day. The
day of the birth,
the sacred gift which
was given us on a golden platter, the State of
Israel.
